Atkins Diet

What Diet? - Atkins Diet
Arguably the most successful, most highly rated and yet the most berated diet of all time, The Atkins Diet was originated by American Dr. Atkins in the early 1980’s. He had originally devised a strict version of this diet purely for his clinically and morbidly obese patients, who had no choice but to lose weight for serious health reasons. He then foresaw the enormously lucrative value in rolling out a more user-friendly version of the diet for all to use to ensure rapid and continuous weight-loss. This has been probably the single largest weight-loss phenomenon of all time to date. Based on the theory that carbohydrates are the body’s preferred source of fuel for energy, the Atkins Diet rules that a high protein, high-fat, low or no-carbohydrate diet forces the body to burn its own fat stores for fuel. This process is known as ketosis and is effective in the short-term, but arguably dangerous in the long-term and is not without side-effects for many who try it. Many books have been published since by the Atkins Foundation to provide devotees of this approach with further information, and a life-time of recipes.
